Biblical attitude towards your elders

The American emphasis on concrete achievements and "doing" means that age is not highly valued, for the older you are the less you can accomplish. Age is also suspect because new is usually better in American culture, and the elderly are generally out of touch with what's new.

In Korea, the rising younger generation should respect the older generation. The Korean considers that age results in wisdom, so that age is regarded as informative. This learning has been affected by Confucianism. However, this tendency has diminished in recent years because under the effects of the western civilization Korea has changed gradually. As a result, the Korean attitude towards age may be said to be mixed up with the traditional age and the recent changed one, making heavier stress on the latter.

while, in the moral view of the Bible, the Scriptures has its positive attitude towards age, when showing the passages such as Leviticus 19:32, “You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man.”, in the productive view of it, it has its reasonable position about age as the passages on estimating the value of person dedicated to God (Lev.27:1-8), or on the people’s ages, from 30 years old to 50 years old, allowed to serve in the tabernacle of the congregation. To sum up, even though the Bible view on age can be said to be expressed differently, depending on situations, it is on the side of Korean late view considerably modified by American.
