Should Christians Get Tattoos?

We have discussed about the tattoo in the class, and tattoo is not allowed in initial audience. Because of the Old Testament law commanded the Israelites, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” (Lev 19:28). We believers today are no longer under the Old Testament and the New Testament does not mention anything about whether it is permitted or not that believers should get a tattoo on their body. Can does Christians get a tattoo or not? This question is many Christians struggle with.

The New Testament does not address against tattoos but also does not give us any reason to believe God would let us get tattoos. In my opinion, if people want to get a tattoo, they may think what the purpose of this is such as am I seeking to glorify God or draw attention to myself? In 1 Cor. 10:31, it states, “Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all the glory of God.” If getting a tattoo is for please to God, I believe it is fine. On the other hand, if someone has any doubts that God would be approved, then getting a tattoo would be a sin. Because of, in Rom 14:23 states, “Whatever is not from faith is sin.”

We Christians do not condemn or judge other people who already have tattoos on their body or who want to get a tattoo. The decision should be decided between a person and God. Before anyone gets a tattoo, they need to give careful consideration to ask God and pray what they want and why they are getting a tattoo and who do this for.
